Seafood Isn’t Just for Master Chefs
Read that again. Let it sink in.
Whether the only dish you can confidently cook is scrambled eggs, or whether you just never have the time to make anything beyond store-bought pasta and tomato sauce, we feel you. We understand being overwhelmed by complicated recipes, and we know the ‘crunched for time’ feeling all too well.
But we also know that preparing incredible seafood meals doesn’t have to be hard.
In fact, it shouldn’t be.
When you have high-quality, fresh seafood, you don’t have to rely on complicated recipes or tons of supplemental ingredients, because the flavor is already there. You can use simple formulas, natural oils and spices, and still be awed by the result.
Don’t believe us? We’ve included a few of our favorite recipes below, so you can see just what we’re talking about. Whether you’re into salmon or shrimp, tuna steaks or crab, we promise there’s something for you.
But first, we’ll dive into the health benefits -- and the lifestyle benefits -- that come from eating fresh seafood on a regular basis.
Eating Fresh Seafood is Great For Your Health
As a society, we become more and more stagnant with every decade. We do our work at desks, we watch hours of Netflix, and we rarely give exercise -- aside from short stints of activity -- a second thought. That’s why healthy diets are more important now than ever before. If we don’t prioritize our health early on, it’ll be significantly more difficult to get a handle on it later.
According to the Harvard School of Public Health, fresh seafood is vital to a healthy diet.
By offering long-chain omega-3 fats, vitamin D, and selenium, fish and seafood are nutrient-dense sources of protein that actually work to make you healthier. Don’t believe us? Don’t take our word for it -- take Harvard’s.
“An analysis of 20 studies involving hundreds of thousands of participants indicates that eating approximately one to two 3-ounce servings of fatty fish a week reduces the risk of dying from heart disease by 36%,” two of the school’s Public Health professors concluded.
The benefits of eating seafood regularly are so overwhelmingly clear that the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the American Heart Association, and other health-centric organizations have all formally endorsed the recommendation that people consume seafood at least twice a week.
But most people don’t follow that recommendation -- for one of a few reasons.
First, they might be nervous about the cost of seafood, believing that affordable fish and shellfish don’t exist.
Next, they might look around their community and see that there isn’t a grocery store (or seafood store) that sells what they’re looking for.
Third, if they do have access to affordable seafood close to their homes, they might be apprehensive about buying it themselves because they don’t know enough about it.
What type do I purchase?
How much should I buy?
What the heck am I going to do with it once it’s in my fridge?
And the last hesitation that people might have about seafood, that’s stopping them from giving it a try? Their memory of fish sticks.
You know the ones: the frozen package that mom bought often, filling the house with that odd fried fish scent. They almost looked like chicken nuggets -- but not quite. To many, those fish sticks are their only recollection of seafood. And if their 7-year-old selves remember correctly, they didn’t really love them.
7 Seas Fish Market debunks all of those hesitations. Which, by the way, are normal to have!
It can be easier to stick with your regular old chicken dish than to dive into a whole new area of learning -- but just because it’s easier doesn’t mean it’s benefiting you. You could be having incredible, healthy meals tonight. But instead, your preconceived notions are stopping you.
So we’ll help you get rid of those now.
First, the seafood meal kits we offer provide top-of-the-line seafood at reasonable price points, allowing you to choose the option that best suits your needs.
Second, once you have your kits chosen, you decide when they get delivered -- right to your door. That means that there’s no grocery store hassle, and there’s no uncertainty about what type or amount to ask for. Everything’s already taken care of, so you can get right to the good part: eating.
And lastly, as far as the fish stick dilemma goes, we can assure you that our seafood tastes nothing like those frozen & fried sticks. If those meals remind you of a sad childhood diet, our seafood will remind you of sophistication, good health, and the explosion of flavor on your taste-buds that you deserve.
Let’s Get Into the Good Stuff: High-Quality, Fresh Seafood Recipes
Okay, now that we’ve given you the lowdown on why you should be including seafood in your diet -- and how easy it is to get that done with services like Cedar Boxx -- we’ll give you the stuff you’ve been waiting for.
The seafood recipes.
We’re talking about the kinds of recipes that’ll make your family gawk, your friends gasp, and your neighbors wonder what smells so damn good.
First on our fool-proof, 20-minutes-or-less fresh seafood recipe list?
Honey Garlic Salmon
This is one of our go-to dishes -- not only is it easy, but it’s also completely customizable. You can swap out the honey for maple syrup, you can spice up the sauce for a sweet-n-sour flavor, or you can go ‘naked’ with your salmon and stick to lemon and garlic.
Whichever way you choose to take this recipe, we know you’re going to love the end result.
Why?
Because when you’re starting with the gold-standard of fresh salmon, anything you do to it will taste incredible.
Honey Garlic Salmon Recipe:
First, season both sides of the salmon with salt and pepper.
Then, add oil to a large pan over medium heat. Once it’s hot, place the salmon (skin down) onto the pan. Let it cook, usually for around six minutes, but this will vary depending on the size of the piece. You’ll know it’s ready to flip when you can flip it without the skin sticking to the pan.
Once your fish is flipped, you’re ready for the fun part: the sauce.
Add minced garlic into the pan, and while it’s soaking into the oil, mix your other sauce ingredients separately. For the standard recipe, we combine honey and lemon juice in a small bowl. I like to use equal parts honey to lemon, about two tablespoons of each.
Once you have your mixture ready, pour it into the saucepan. Your fish will likely need another couple of minutes to finish cooking, which will give your sauce time to thicken up. When the salmon’s ready (it’ll look completely opaque), take the pan off of the heat.
Give it a minute to cool, and then remove the skin -- and there you are: a perfect, lemony, sweet, tender piece of fresh salmon, waiting for you to take a bite.
From start to finish, this won’t take you more than 15 minutes -- and you already have the ingredients in your kitchen, even if you keep a minimalist kitchen.
I like to plate this salmon with a bed of greens and some homemade fries, but you’re welcome to get creative. Rice, mashed potatoes, and roasted mix vegetables are all great accompaniments too.
Who says that meal delivery has to be unhealthy? With Cedar Boxx, you’re getting the best healthy food delivery possible -- and learning how to take your home cooking to the next level.
20-Minute Healthy Shrimp Tacos
This next recipe is one we always have up our sleeve for dinner parties, potlucks, and really any Taco Tuesday. It’s quick, it’s delicious, and it’s so easy to make that your dog could do it.
(We’re not saying he will, we’re saying he could.)
When your 7 Seas Fish Market fresh food delivery kit arrives on your doorstep, this is one of the first recipes you should try out.
It’ll give you the motivation you need to keep exploring seafood recipes -- because of its delectable taste and its simple instructions.
Healthy Shrimp Tacos Recipe
First, get some oil and butter (about a tablespoon) heating up in a pan. Medium/high heat works best. Add half of an onion, chopped, and let it sauté for five or so minutes.
In the meantime, chop the veggies you want to use: we go with bell peppers and mushrooms, but any combo you like works.
Once the five minutes are up, add your shrimp into the pan -- along with some salt and pepper, minced garlic, and whatever other seasonings you have on hand. (Cumin goes nicely.) Let that sauté for 3 minutes.
Next, add your veggies. Another 3 minutes for those to sauté. And then you’re adding 1 more tablespoon of butter, and the juice from one lime. (If you don’t have a fresh lime, store-bought lime juice is totally okay.) Let the whole mix sauté for another minute, and then take the pan off the heat.
Serve these right away -- we like to have our tortillas ready and waiting (and warmed up in the microwave before). Scoop your shrimp/veg mix into the tortilla, add some fresh sliced avocado and salsa, and there you have it: healthy, delicious, ready in under 20.
This recipe is open to interpretation -- however you like your tacos is how you should make them.
Big spice fan? Get your hot peppers in the veg mix and your hot sauce ready.
Missing the cheese? Add some shredded pepper jack and a dollop of sour cream.
With all the possibilities, one thing’s for sure: you’ll never get bored of this recipe.
